Despite the flag’s design not having any official meaning, unofficially, it is believed by many that the blue color symbolizes a clear sky, while the yellow represents the country’s ripe wheat fields.

The flag’s colors also have religious interpretations, where blue symbolizes the power of God and yellow symbolizes the power of faith. In another theory of their meaning, they represent two elements: blue as water and yellow as fire.

Many European countries also have blue and yellow in their flags, but for each country it can have a variety of different meanings, depending on the history of the flag’s creation.

For example, the presence of blue in the Bosnian flag is a reference to the EU and the UN, which played an important role in ending the Bosnian war. Or in Spain, the flag’s red and yellow represent the kingdoms of Aragon and Castille, which united in 1469, essentially becoming the core of modern Spain.

But there are also several countries that have the same meaning as the colors in the Ukrainian flag.

For example, the blue color in Czechia’s, Estonia’s, and Moldova’s flags symbolize the sky. And for Moldova, the yellow in their flag also symbolizes wheat fields just the same as Ukraine’s.

But today, blue and yellow can be seen in almost every country: on private houses, on state administrations, on clothes. Berlin illuminated the Brandenburg Gate in blue-yellow and Paris illuminated the Eiffel Tower in blue-yellow. Bands such as Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, and others have raised the blue-yellow flag from the stage during their concerts.

Державний символ України офіційного трактування не має. Але неофіційно люди звикли вважати, що синій колір символізує ясне мнебо, а жовтий – стиглі пшеничні поля.

Існують й інші трактування, наприклад релігійний, коли синій – символізує силу Бога, а жовтий – силу віри або ж як Дві стихії: синій – як стихія води, жовтий – як стихія вогню.

У прапорах багатьох країн Європи також присутні синій та жовтий кольори, але для кожної країни це завжди особливе значення, залежачи від історії створення прапору. 

Як наприклад присутність синього кольору у прапорі Босні символізує посилання на ЄС та ООН які відіграли важливу роль у припиненні боснійської війни. Або ж в Іспанії – жовтий та червоний означають 2 королівства Арагону та Кастилії, які об'єдналися у 1469 році, по суті ставши ядром сучасної Іспанії. 

Але є також декілька країн, які мають таке ж саме значення цих кольорів, як і Україна. 

Наприклад синій колір у Чехії, Естонії та Молдові також символізує небо. І також у Молдові жовтий колір у прапорі символізує пшеничні поля. 

Але сьогодні синьо жовті кольори можна побачити ледь не у кожній країні: на приватних будинках, на державних адміністраціях, на одязі. Берлін освітив бранденбурзькі ворота блакитно-жовтим, Париж освітив ейфелеву вежу блакитно жовтим, а лідери музикальних гуртів таких як наприклад Imagine Dragons, Coldplay та інші, піднімали блакитно-жовтий прапор зі сцен під час своїх концертів.
