The most intense attack on Odesa to date

Six missiles were fired at the city on Saturday, May 7th. Four rockets hit a private furniture factory, while two struck an airstrip.  Another six missiles launched on Saturday May 8th, which damaged private housing and a part of a hotel near the sea. 

KATAPULT Ukraine correspondents have visited areas that suffered from the strikes. 

In a neighborhood close to the furniture factory, many people packed their bags into the trunks of their cars and left. They fear that there might be further attacks in the area. 

A local man told KATAPULT Ukraine that he lived in the building for nine years, and now, he and his family have to leave because it is not safe anymore. 

"The saddest thing is that we were affected only because we live close to the “school airfield” that was used by the military in Soviet times. The airfield hasn’t operated in a long time," said the man.

255 flats were damaged by the blasts and had their windows broken.

In the village in Odesa region, dozen of houses were damaged by the shockwave. The crater from the impact is very impressive. It is a miracle that no one got killed. Only one girl was injured;  a piece of glass got into her eye.

A missile hit a famous hotel complex where locals liked to celebrate weddings and banquets. It was a piece of “cozy Europe in our city”, according to locals. The hotel administrator told KATAPULT Ukraine that it is pure luck and God’s blessing that the hotel was not open at the moment of the attack, otherwise there would have been casualties.

В эти выходные Одесса подверглась самому интенсивному ракетному обстрелу с начала войны. В субботу, 7 мая, в сторону города было выпущено шесть ракет. Четыре ракеты попали в частную мебельную фабрику, две — во взлетно-посадочную полосу аэропорта. Еще шесть ракет повредили частный дом и разрушили часть гостиницы у моря в воскресенье, 8 мая. 

Корреспонденты KATAPULT Ukraine побывали в пострадавших от ударов районах.

В спальном районе, близком к мебельной фабрике, многие собираются уезжать. Люди опасаются новых ракетных ударов.

Местный житель рассказал KATAPULT Ukraine, что он вынужден уехать из дома, в котором он жил со своей семьей девять лет, потому что там уже небезопасно.

«Самое печальное, что мы пострадали только потому, что наш дом находятся по соседству со «школьным аэродромом», который в советское время использовался военными, но давно уже не работает», — сказал мужчина.

255 квартир были повреждены в результате взрывов. В них выбиты окна.

В селе, в Одесской области, ударной волной повреждены десятки домов. Воронка от удара очень впечатляет. Никто не погиб лишь чудом. Пострадала только одна девушка. Осколок стекла попал ей в глаз.

Ракета попала в известный гостиничный комплекс, где местные жители часто отмечали свадьбы и банкеты. Это был кусочек «уютной Европы в нашем городе». Администрация гостиницы Катапульт УКРАИНА заявила, что не обошлось без везения, так как гостиница не работала в момент ракетной удачи, в противном случае жертв избежать бы не удалось.
